Course Maps and Descriptions

Swim

The swim is in the St. Lawrence River 150m from transition.

The Try-a-Tri is a single 200m loop (approximately 100m out and back). The Sprint is a single 750m loop (approximately 375m out and back). The Olympic is two 750m loops for a total of 1500m. Swimmers shall start in the water (treading water); there are some shallow areas where you may stand if need be. Swimmers shall swim to the left of all buoys (i.e., buoys on the right hand side).

The swim course is aided by Cornwall Fire water rescue, kayaks, canoes and lifeguards. Exit from the swim course is onto a rubber mat shore line then a short incline to the run into transition.

The water temperature of the river is typically 21-22 degrees Celsius (70-72 degrees Fahrenheit) and allows for the use of wetsuits in all events.

Bike

The bike course is on closed city streets within the downtown core of the City of Cornwall, along the St. Lawrence River.

The course is slightly rolling but technical. The bike course is 10km in length. The course heads east out of transition to a turn around near Boundary Road. Heading west the course enters into the Nav Canada Training Institute up and down the main driveway. Once back on Montreal Road, continue to head west to a left turn on Marlborough St. This slight downhill is the fastest part of the course and winds through Cornwall’s historical Cotton Mill district returning to Montreal Road for the eastward ride back to the transition area. The Try-A-Tri race completes 1 loop, the Sprint Tri and Du complete 2 loops and the Olympic distance competitors will complete 4 loops. Note: There is a 300m section of the course just east of the transition that narrows to allow vehicle access to the Glen-Stor-Dun Lodge facility. For safety, this is a no-passing zone.

Strava Segment for a single loop.

Please be aware that the road is closed to traffic during the race. The roads may be busy during all other times and not ideal for training on.

Run

Please see note below about alternate run course for 2024.

The run is held on the beautiful recreational path along the banks of the St. Lawrence River.

The run course is slightly rolling. The first Sprint Duathlon run will head west along the bike course on an out-and-back route. The first Sprint Duathlon run will enter transition in the same manner as the bike-in.

After the bike portion has been completed all runs head east along the recreational path. The Try-A-Tri race completes 1 loop of a 2.5km course, The Sprint Tri/Du complete 2 loops of the course and the Olympic distance racers will complete 4 loops.

The 5K Race starts on the road adjacent to the finish arch, and then merges onto the recreation path, where it follows the same course as the sprint tri and sprint duathlon, completing 2 loops and then back to the finish.

Alternate Run Course for 2024

Please note that there is construction on our regular run course. We have prepared an alternate run course for 2024. The new run course is a 2.5 km loop.

Runners will start their run from transition (5km race starts from the road adjacent to the finish line banner). Runners will then be directed south onto Kirkman Court, and then turn east onto the waterfront trail. Runners will proceed along the waterfront trail until a turnaround just beyond Dunbar Avenue. Runners will return west on the waterfront trail back towards the transition/finish area. Depending on the event, 1, 2 or 4 loops accounting for 2.5 km, 5km and 10km respectively will be completed before continuing to the finish line.

Note- there is a very sharp turn at the bottom of Kirkman Court where the run turns left (east) onto the waterfront trail. There will be a marshal there to ensure there is no traffic, but you MUST slow down at this corner for your own safety.

The run is adjacent to the bike course (separated by a curb). A section of the run loop is bi-directional so runners are to keep to the right, and not obstruct either oncoming or faster runners coming from behind.

A Strava segment for the 5 km run is available here.

Parking

There is no triathlon parking at St. Lawrence College this year because of construction. Please see the map below and read the accompanying notes for this year’s parking; keeping in mind P4 is the preferred location to park for ease of access and egress – and can be accessed via Danis Avenue.

Please plan your parking and arrival accordingly. There is ample parking available considering street parking on Carleton Street, Belmont Street, St. Felix Street, Danis Avenue, Levebvre Avenue and the 5 parking lots we have been granted access to.

P1 = Personal Touch Physiotherapy (corner of St. Felix and Montreal Road).
P2 = Quest PTS at 1020 Montreal Road
P3 = Seaway Family Dental at 1080 Montreal Road
P4 = Massive Field Parking supervised by Rotary Club of Cornwall; access at 1150 Montreal Road and through side access on Danis Avenue at Easton Avenue.
P5 = Limited on site parking at L’Heritage School, 1111 Montreal Road.

Note – Montreal Road will be closed from 7 AM until approximately 12:30 PM. Limited access to parking lots via Montreal Road will be open until approximately 8 AM via Belmont Street, St. Felix Street and Danis Avenue. If you park in P2, P3, or P5 – you will not be able to leave until the road re-opens after the triathlon. P1 and P4 have side-street access.

Contingency Plan
